I recently got my DipIETE in Electronics and Telecommunication certificate evaluated via WES to a Canadian equivalency of 4 years bachelors degree.
Thought I’d share the process with folks who completed the DipIETE program as I could not find any solid information online on the WES Canadian equivalency of a diploma from IETE.
This was a 3 year Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication from IETE that I’d completed in 2008. Here is the process:
Create your WES profile
Initiate and application, make payment, and get WES reference number. When initiating the WES application, “Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers” is available as an option to select for the ‘Institution’ field. For ‘Type of Education’, I’d selected “Professional Education: …”.
Having opted to send a physical copy of the report via Canada Post (least costly option), the application costed 230 CAD at the time.
Scan and Upload requested documents to WES
WES will show on their interface the documents that you need to upload. If I remember correctly, only the IETE diploma membership certificate was required by WES.
Get in touch with IETE
Send an email to sic@iete.org to have your transcript sent to WES — they are prompt and will provide you with next steps.
IETE’s services include sending the transcript directly to you as well as other Universities or institutions. For WES evaluation, we need to have them send it directly to WES. They charge US Dollar 80 for this process. This is the only payment we need to make with IETE.
Make payment with IETE as instructed.
I converted USD 80 to INR on Google on the day of the payment and used the provided link to make the payment.
You get a ‘Payment Transaction ID’ once the transaction is completed. Make a not of this as it is required in the next step.
Send a Transcript request to IETE
Initiate an email to IETE requesting a transcript to be sent to WES, while also citing the Payment transaction ID from above step.
IETE also requires that you send a scanned copy of the Membership Certificate and Grade Card. So have these scanned. Also fill out the WES academic records request form and have it attached the email. I’ve sent the following attachments:
- Membership Certificate
- Final Grade Sheet
- Filled and signed WES academic records request form
- Payment success message as PDF
IETE to send transcript to WES
IETE may not respond to you immediately on receiving the transcript application. They will if further documents are required. I emailed them back requesting status of the application and they promptly responded that it was in progress.
WES received the transcript at around a weeks time from when the transcript application was sent to IETE.
WES to process the application
As soon as the transcript is received from IETE, WES notifies you over email that your application is being processed (ie, if you do not have other credentials added to the evaluation). The result came in at around 48 hours after WES started processing the application.
WES evaluated the diploma program to a 4 year Canadian Bachelors degree. Those who worry whether your DipIETE program will be evaluated by WES can rejoice. They do.
